Looking for Buck Born USA Abt 1836
I am looking for any information on EDWARD BUCK, born USA about 1836 and was married in Australia in 1860. His Parents are listed at RUBEN BUCK AND JULIA BARRY.
His Marriage Certificate says: Married January 9th, 1860. to Joanna Burke, of Co.Tipperary, Ireland (she was born abt.1832. They were married in the Church of St.Patrick, Kilmore, Victoria, Australia . I have been trying for ages to find out anymore about them after that. I know they had a daughter, Julia Ann Buck, who is my Great Grandmother and she married William Dawson on 19 February,1886 in Tamworth, NSW, Australia.
I there anyone out there who might be able to throw some light on my 'mystery, Many Thanks, Bronnie
Johanna Burke was a witness at my Great Grandfather and Mothers wedding in Kilmore in 1857. Two family's lived on the land that I live on, there names were Buck and Campbells, I was always told that they were inter married but I have not been able to prove this. Edward Buck married Johanna Burke as you have stated I have found two children born in Victoria Edmond born 1862 in Kilmore and Julia Ann born in Goldie which is here. This is all I know I was interested because Johanna has her mark on my Great grand parents wedding certificate Pat
Thank You Pat for your note. sorry for the late reply but time just seems to get away..One thing has always puzzled me..In BDM , Julia Ann Buck is Registered as being born in 'GOLDIE'. Is that the name of the property in Kilmore or is is actually another suburb in Victoria?? Other people on ancestry are doing the same lineage and they have her born in Goldie. I am just curious.
I am dong Research on the Dawson family (my Mum's side) and that is turning out to be a bit of a can of worms. Every time I start to search, something else mysteriously pops up. A lot of fun though.
I don't know anything about the 'Campbells' as you mentioned, I wonder what the story is there 'Curiosity' that's all.
Once again, Thank you for your information. Regards, Bronwyn
Goldie is a district to the west of Kilmore We are about 10 mile (17 Km) out. When the school and Post Office came, this part of Goldie was renamed Tantaraboo. The school and Post Office have both gone now. Buck's and Campbells did not own this land but had a "Splitter's Licence" Which allowed them to live and sell wood from the land.
Thank you very much for that information.
are your Great Grandparents in an way related to my family line?
Regards, Bronwyn
No they must have been friends. As Johanna was Great Grandmother's bridesmaid. We were always told that Buck's and Campbells' lived here and they were American
