John, try this site The SurnameNavigator. Click on a country from the drop down list, type in say COONER and then submit/search. It's a powerful genealogical search engine that will search through at least 14 databases at once. Hopefully you have Broadband connection, if not it will take a while but is very well worth it.
Use this search engine for all your surnames, especially the unusual and uncommon ones. You may be very surprised at what you find.
i have found Joho(Yoho) clear to Johannes Joho of Alsace, France/Switzerland and his father Johann Michael(Joho?) Cooner im having hard time finding link between Cooners of SC and AL!! Cresta is very difficult to trace!!! and Glenn im after next!!
