Hey Lizzy, my family are descendants of Crocketts from Mansfield. Can't give you any details off the top of my head but when I get my hand on some info I'll write back. Cheers!

Hi Lizzy
My mother Valda Crockett resaerched and wrote a book (unpublished) called the Crockett Family of Mansfield. I managed to put some of it on the WEB at http://genforum.genealogy.com/crockett/messages/1291.html

The genealogy should be accurate except for earlier than George Crockett born 1692 in Ireland (Tamlaght O'Crilly in Derry). The link to French Crocketts is not at all proven from what i can gather from other genealogy forums. It is quite possible the Crocketts of Tamlaght O'Crilly are originally from Scotland.

I live in Canberra but was born at Mansfield and lived as child at Bindarah (Blacks Creek) the old Crockett home near Mansfield.

regards

Will Osborne

Hi, wilmaxalel.
Thank you for your message. I am very interested in finding out more about the Crockett's of Mansfield, as my g-grandmother was Elizabeth Crockett who was my grandfather's mother. My Dad took us through the Mansfield, Tolmie area when I was a child and I have since had a lot of information from Mansfield Historical society. I am still trying to establish who the Jack Crockett was who bought up my grandfather after his father and later his mother died when he was about 6 years old.
I will have to look at your messages on the web site at genforum.
I'm looking forward to finding more history. Your mothers book must be great to read, what a shame she didn't publish it.
Best wishes

LizzyBee

Hi Lizzie,
I am the daughter of Zilla Stevens who worked with Will Osborne may years ago in Melbourne. They discovered a a common ancestry with the Crocketts of Mansfield so therefore I am also related.
We are descended from Anna Crockett child of James Crockett and Catherine Paul born in Tamlaght O'Crilly around 1830. Anna married William Carlisle in Melbourne 1854. He died in 1871 in Mansfield and Anna then moved to Yarrawonga and bought land there. It is shown on an early map of the town.
I understand that Andrew Crockett of Mansfield was Anna's brother as my Grandmother Bertha Charity Carlisle went to stay with her uncle Andrew and his wife before commencing her nursing training at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne in the early 1900's
