Looking for Decendants of George Birchenough
George was born in June quarter 1861 in Macclesfield.
In 1871 census he was living on Pickford Street in Macclesfield. His father died in 1874 and sister, Mary, was married in 1876.
In 1881 census George lived with Mary and her husband and brothers and sister in the family home.
There is no listing for their Mother, Hannah, and it is feasible that she could have re-married. There are four possible marriages for a Hannah Birchenough between 1874 and 1881, and one in Macclesfield.
There is a marriage for a George Birchenough in Jun 1884 in Macclesfield. It may be possible that he married Rachel Swindells.
Is there anybody reasearching Birchenough who can help spread some light on decendant for George and what happened to Hannah.
Regards

Hi Stephen
There is this death in 1885 age roughly right for Hannah Birchenough, can't seem to locate her in the 1881 Census, it is possible her name was incorrectly transcribed.
Deaths Jun 1885 (>99%)
Birchenough Hannah 49 Macclesfield 8a 103
Do you have Charles & Hannah's Marriage? or any of the children's and Birth certificate.
In 1871 Census children listed
Thomas b1848/49 can't find birth match
Mary b1855/56 possible March 1855
George b1861 June 1861
Albert b1865/66 can't find any Albert registered 1860-1870
Sarah b1867/68 possible Sept 1868
Maria b1870/71 March 1871.
It is possible that Maria 3 months on 1871 died, as I can't find her in the 1881 Census
Deaths Jun 1874 (>99%)
BIRCHENOUGH Maria 3 Macclesfield 8a 88
Can only find one marriage for Charles Birchenough and Hannah Smith in June 1852??
I couldn't find any previous marriage for Charles, so is Thomas their son or is he Hannah's son before her marriage to Charles? if you have their marriage certificate it may shed some clues on the matter.
There are five Thomas SMITH's born between 1845-1850 in Macclesfield.
I found a little intrigue - youngest son Peter born 1872 Macclesfield was adopted by James & Theresa Whittaker he is on 1881 Census with them, Peter is on the 1891 with George & Rachel he is listed as brother. If this is the correct family.

Thanks for the info, what a puzzle.
I am finding with all my searches I have exhausted all information available and to proceed need to obtain birth or marriage certificates.
I did find on 1891 census George and Rachel, and children listed as Peter and Elizabeth. Peter was listed a adopted son in 1881, as you stated above.
In 1901 no sign of George Rachel is listed with daughter Lizzie.
In Georges family and finding that most died young. What a miracle that my gr grandfather Albert married and had children whick survived long enough to marriy and have children, otherwise I may never have been here.

I have Birchenough's in my tree as well and they are a real nightmare - my Birchenoughs are from Chapel en le Firth Derbyshire, Ashton Under Lyne Lancashire and Dunkinfield Cheshire and married into my Davidson family.
When you get your certificates come back to the journal and update any information you might gleam from them, you might be able to get further help searching for him.

I have no idea who Arthur Gosling is who was bording with George & Rachel in 1891. To make it more intrguing in 1911 there is a Hilda Gosling living with them in Hayfield, Derbyshire.
Lizzie had left home by 1911. There are no mariiages or deaths records between 1901 and 1911 for her. On the 1911 census there is only one Lizzie listed and she lived with a family of Birchenough's in Eccesall Bierlow, Yorks. This may be another Lizzie or Arthur and Elizabeth may be related some way.
Peter was in an institution in 1901 in Macclesfield. I have no more information. In 1911 census he was living with William Birchenough 1846 and Joseph 1886 in Macclesfield. I do not know at this time how these fit in.
It looks like my search for decendants of George are almost over. I can trace his life and did not have any son's to carry the Birchenough name on. All I need to do is find his death.
