Maybe South Australia if related to Henry Stirling (Jack) Bacchus 1873-1914 and his wife Adeline, they had two sons, 'fraid I don't know their names. Henry's grandmother was a Stirling. Henry was born in Adelaide 21 November 1873, His father was Henry William Bacchus and mother Mary Ann, nee Young. Henry Stirling was the eighth of ten children, no brothers called Donald so maybe one of his sons.

a copy of child's birth should give you parents marriage details and then a copy of the marriage should give you his parents details and it will hopefully give more clues to his birth.

Thank you to asheppard for that information. The rest of the family is very well documented so I was surprised to find the births of Madonna and little Reg. with a father I didn't know. There is also a newspaper article in the Barrier Daily on 22 July 1948 saying that Don Bacchus had died after 30 yrs. working in the mines.
I will keep searching.

Tonkin - if I could find any information about this man apart from the fact that he fathered two children & worked in Broken Hill mines for 30 years it would make my search much easier. If I knew his approximate year of birth, what state that was in, when he was married and when he died I probably wouldn't be asking for help.

To find out who Donald Stirling Bacchus is you will need to purchase the copies of the Birth Certificates for Reginald & Madonna

It is possible he is one in the same, but the certificate will verify mothers name and marriage etc. for further checking.

I just noticed in the death obituary in the Barrier that it gives Mrs Hanrahan as his daughter, this gets more & more curious.

DEATH OF MR.D. BACCHUS

Mr. Daniel Ambrose (Don)Bacchus (63), who had lived in Broken Hill for 30 years, died in Royal Adelaide Hospital yesterday. After working on the line of lode for many years, Mr..Bacchus; left here five years ago for his native State, South Australia. He was in poor health and lately had been living in northern South Australia. He leaves a widow (Mrs. Elsie Bacchus) and daughter, Mrs. Hanrahan.

I would definitely get a copy of those birth certificate.

It also looks like he was married at least twice

There is also a divorce listed in Barrier 27 Aug 1930 where he is named Donald Stirling Bacchus

BACCHUS v. BACCHUS .

Marion Elsie Bacchus petitioned for divorce from Daniel 8tirling Bacchus on the ground of desertion.

Mr. T. J. Brown appeared for the petitioner. There was no appearance of the respondent.

Evidence was given hy the petitioner of Gawler, and formerly of Broken Hill,' and John William Henry Dawes, of 463 Argent street.

His Honor found the desertion proved.

It's a long shot but worth looking at.
Marriage certificate may name Daniel's parents.
If this is the correct marriage it appears their children were born before the marriage, but that's not uncommon.

I also picked up the birth and death for Daniel BACCHUS in the South Australian records but you were looking for a Donald Stirling BACCHUS and I was not sure if Donald and Daniel were the same person, and I'm still not sure.

When Madonna and Reginald were born the parents were named as Donald Stirling BACCHUS and Louisa (aka Minnie Louisa) DAWES.

Their daughter Madonna married Claude Columba HANRAHAN in Adelaide in 1932. Madonna's father was named as Donald BACCHUS. Madonna married by the name of Madge Madonna BACCHUS. When she died in 1980 her death was registered twice under the given names of Madge Madonna and Madonna Stirling. Parents named as Donald BACCHUS and Louisa unknown. She was buried at the Lilydale Lawn Cemetery in Victoria on the 18 February 1980 and recorded in the Cemetery records as Madge Madonna Stirling HANRAHAN.

Daniel Ambrose Samuel Bertram Bacchus was born in Adelaide in 1885 the son of Henry William Bacchus and Mary Ann Elizabeth, nee Young the brother of Henry Stirling (Jack)Bacchus 1873-1914 who I mentioned above.

Henry and Ann BACCHUS had 1 more child, Roy James b. 1886 in Lilimur, Victoria.
He married Charlotte CONSTABLE and died 26 June 1965 in Adelaide.
