I'm not related but I can help you out a bit. I know that his father was Griffin Cant 1836-1920 The newspapers called him Griffith but he was on the electoral Roll as Griffin. Came out to Australia, age 12 with his parents, Griffin CANT 1797-1873 and Mary BROWN 1796-1865 arrived in Adelaide. (don't know ship or date) Both died in Adelaide. After Mary Brown died Griffin Senior married again (1866)I believe her name was Esther KIRKMAN, she died in South Australia in 1894.
Griffin Jnr. married in Victoria and lived around the central goldfields, Castlemaine, Guildford, Campbell's Creek etc. then in 1904 he was a bag Merchant in Brunswick St., Fitzroy. Here is his death and Funeral notice:-

Griffin Cant and one child, Betsy Cant, Charlotte Cant, Mary Selina Cant, George cant, the interesting things are the spelling is cant and caut and there is no Mary cant nee Brown
