Looking for Family Lai
Hi. My name is Lerlen La Foy and I am looking for
relatives of my dad's (Colin Robert La Foy) with the
surname LAI. My great grandfather's name was FOY LAI.
He married my great grandmother MARIA ELIZABETH MANUEL.
Their children's names (Chinese in brackets) are:
Nicholas (Kwok Chong), Elisabeth (Nuk Alaan), Rosie
(Nuk Hinkie), Doreen (Nuk Wa), Henry (Kwok Ming), Manny
(Kwok Sing), Stephen (Kowk Toy), Stella (Nuk Lien) and
Clarence (no Chinese name). They changed their surname
to LA FOY. Apparently my great grandfather went back to
China and took his eldest son with him, Nicholas.
Stella (Nuk Alaan) is my grandmother and she lives in a
home in Sydenham, Durban.
Do you know where he went back to in China? Which Province?
ANy ship records to check?
It will help as it will identify the general area in China where he came from.
Also, are there any chinese prases used at home? It will help identify if your family is Hakka as the 'Nyuk' and "Kwong" is common amongst the Hakkas.
Hi Felix
I will find out from some members of my my family if they know any of this information.
Are you also researching the Lai family?
Regards
Lerlen
Hi,welcome to Lai Clan Forum: http://www.lai-clan.tk
hi hope you still logged in this account as i just joined as I am searching for more information about my grandmother (half chinese)and her parents. Her name was Elizabeth Lafoy and story is that she changed her surname. So do we have a connection somehow? Please please contact me as it sounds to me that we share the same great grandparents ( i hope as this will be a major breakthrough!)
