Looking for George Venerent Blanchard Degrisley Degrechie of Nb
Hi whomever, From the research that I have done, I believe that I am from this branch, but not totally sure. My great-great grandfather might have been this George. He & Venerent DiGrisley had 10 children per the 1881 Census of Canada. All of these children seem to match the family with the exception of 2nd born child Albar. In the 1900 US Census, Albert & Melvina (Snay/Seney?? not sure)Degrouchy had 8 children, with the 5th born Omer, being my maternal grandfather. This Albert got to be known as 'Hubert' & Omer as 'Homer' (I think). I would like to find the birthplace of Omer/Homer. I have Trois-Riveres, Que. or Victoriaville, Que. or Schuylerville/Northumberland, NY. I have noticed that there are other 'twigs' to Furlotte & Seney. On my maternal grandmother Lillie Stacy/Tessier's & Barcomb/Berthiaume twig is growing. With all of the discrepancies & interpretations of census records, it sometimes is very difficult to follow. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Can you put the above in some order of timeline:
Your father/mother names dates of birth approx and Where
Your grandfather/mother names dates of birth approx and Where.
Your g/grandfather/mother names dates of birth approx and Where.
Your g/g/grandfather/mother names dates of birth approx and Where
it will help anyone trying to assist you. How was your's and your father's surname spelt on your birth /marrige cert.

Hi, I have copies of all of these records. The 1920 US census lists Homer's birthyear est. 1894. His draft card lists birthdate 15 Sept 1893 in Northumberland, NY. We always celebrated his birthday on 28 Aug (1893). According to the 1900 US census for Albert & Melvina Degrouchy it states that their immigration year was 1895 & that Omer, age 7, & his sister Georgeana, age 5, were born in Canada Fr.. Younger brother Wilfried, age 4 & Edward, age 2, were born in NY.
The marriage record from Vermont Vital Records for Homer lists no birthdate, birthplace Schuylerville, NY, father Albert, birthplace Canada & mother Georgiana, birthplace Canada. Also in the Vermont Vit. Records I have not yet found my mother Gladys DeGrechie birth, but still looking.
The death date for Homer was 07 July 1982. Lilly's was 28 Mar. 1986.
So many differences make it very difficult to grow a tree. Too bad I didn't care about this stuff 65 years ago, when I could have gotten this info straight from the horse. Oh well, it will all come together soon. Thank you again.

Good morning, I have this record too. My thoughts now are to go back thru Canada censuses to find some small twig that I may have missed. Back in the mid 1800's it seems that brothers had children that were all named the same ie. Joseph, Albert, George, Peter, John, John B.. George & Vineranti DeGrisley (Degrechie) had a Mary C. (1867), Mary J. (1876) & Mary (1880). Very confusing, especislly when birthdates are estimated. Well, I have my mission for today so, I better get started. Thank you.
I can see why this is getting confusing:

How sure are you that the Degrechie / Snay families came from New Brunswick. Have you tried these site :

Melvina Snay, 1862-1923, wife of Hubert DeGrechie, 1864-1944, were my maternal great-grandparents I am a member of FIND A GRAVE & have several notes on my wife's relatives' graves.
I have been told that 3 Degrouchy brothers came to the Jacket River, NB area, from Jersey, Channel Islands, or directly from France or Normandy, where there were 2 or 3 fiefs/towns/villages/whatever?? named Grouchy. A lot of Degruchy, Degrace were sea captains, so hitching a ride to NB was pretty simple. They supposedly split a land grant to settle there.
I will try your links to these other sites. Thanks again.
What were the brothers names and Approx ages. I Live in the UK so may be able to research them for you
