Looking for HAY of Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales

Query by Andrewhay

I am looking for information on the Hay family that came from Tenby, Pembrokshire, Wales. I don't know much about them but Benjamin Hay, died about 1849, had a son named John Richard Hay. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

I done some quick research for you, not sure what you do and don't know or what you would like to know but there are a few facts for you. Message me if you would like the sources.

Benjamin Hay, son of Thomas Hay and Elizabeth, was baptised December 11, 1796 at Begelly in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Benjamin Hay married Rachel Richards, October 3, 1829 at St Issell's, which is shown as the brides parish. They were married by banns, neither had been married before.

The couples son John was born in 1832

In 1841 the family are living at Wooden (either street name or house name), St Issell, Pembrokeshire and Benjamin's occupation is shown as a shoemaker.

Benjamin died, aged 53 in May 1850 at St Issell and was buried on May 23.

The 1851 census shows John Hay living with his widowed mother Rachel, at the same address as the 1841 census. John is shown as 18 and working as a collier.

The 1871 census shows John is married to Elizabeth and still living at the same address as when he lived with his mother, occupation shown as coal miner. There is a marriage of John R Hays to Elizabeth Elliston in 1850, Pembrokeshire so may possibly be them. There are 6 children listed, Benjamin (1854), Thomas (1857), John (1860), Rachel (1862), James (1865) and Margaret (1869).

John died in 1882.

Hope that helps your research.
