Looking for Hendricks from GA with SC Connections
I am researching my Hendricks line and I am hitting a brick wall, hard! I am stuck. I have gone as far back as Zin Hendricks, fought in the Civil War, from Talbot Co, GA, married to Mary McDonald. His dates are: b - 3.18.1826 d - 8.10.1864. Born in SC and died is buried at Sardis Methodist Church in Talbot Co, GA. Mary's dates are: b - 11.22.1823
d - 6.10.1891, also buried at Sardis. I would like to know who were Zin's parents and where they came from and who their parents were. Any help would be appreciated!
I don't have much but maybe this helps.
Look in here 1860 United States Federal Census
I think his parents were Sion HENDRICKS born in South Carolina about 1788 and his wife Nancy BAILEY born in Elbert Georgia 1788-1882.
Married in Elbert Georgia in 1810, Sources :-
Georgia Marriages to 1850
Georgia Marriages to 1850
Georgia Marriages, 1699-1944
The children of this union were:-
Ennetta Harriet Hendricks 1825 – 1909
Zin Hendricks 1826 – 1864
William Josiah Hendricks 1828 – 1922
James Travis Hendricks 1854 – 1940
Nancy Bailey's parents were Hezekiah BAILEY born in Virginia in 1751 married Rebecca ? in 1770
Source;U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900
As far as Sion Hendricks 1788 goes, I can't find anything, but, when researching another, William HENDRICKS 1742-1842 in Spartanburg the name changed to HENDRIX for some of his children in the next generation.
I have a short journal on here "William Hendrix 1766-1842 Spartanburg, South Carolina"
The spelling variation could be the answer as to why you are stuck.
Hello jaysgirl,
I have added the link, just in case you have difficulty in finding janilyes journal, on:
William HENDRIX 1766-1842
Thank you to all for the information! I appreciate it and I am going to look at the link you posted!
Sion and Nancy (Bailey) Hendricks are my 3rd Great Grandparents. Sion was born in South Carolina. I have a copy of their marriage license from December 1810 in (I think . . . I'll have to dig it to verify it) Talbot County, Georgia. I also have a copy of an index card for Sion's War of 1812 service as a private in the GA Militia. Sion and Nancy were your Zin's parents.
