This is a passenger list to Port Jackson
Unfortunately, the crew are only mentioned as 'various'

It was meant to sail fom Sydney on the 17th January but finally actually set sail on the 24th, arriving in Auckland port on Sunday the 10th February 1850

As you said an articled apprectice, James Upton deserted at Auckland.
He was found being harboured by Benjamin Fearley at Benjamin's house. When the police arrived Benjamin told James not to return to the ship. Benjamin ended up in court and was fined 10 pound plus costs

The HAMLET left for California the following month

Unfortunatley, I cannot find any list at this time for ships crew - hoping someones ancestors will know
