Looking for info on BERNARD and THOMAS McKEON, LEITRIM, IRELAND.

Query by Sarelm

I wish I could just get any hook on either of those gentlemen. I have very little to go on but for what it's worth here goes;
Thomas McKeon was born on 31/08/1867 to PAT (Patrick) and Mary (Nee Murray)McKeon in KILLNAGROSS Co Leitrim, Ireland. His brother Bernard was born 20/04/1872. I believe they left for Australia in 1900/1901 and never made contact with their family again. There was five other childern in the family 4 of whom emigrated to the Usa in the late eighteen hundreds. their names were Maria - John - Margaret - Eliza Ann and Catherine. Thomas was the eldest of the family and Catherine the youngest. She was my G grandmother - she was the only oneto remain in Ireland - married Thomas Ward in 1908 after both her parents were dead.
This is all the info I have - I spent almost all of the past year trying to access various lists for ships and marriages and what have you but with very little joy. I really have come to a stand still now and would really appreciate any suggestions on how to continue. I'm being joined from America by a group of mckeon decendents in 2011 eager to know all about Tom and Barney as he was know here as. Did they live into old age? did they marry? did they multiply?

Greetings,
I just read your account of searching for a Thomas McKeon. If this is the same Thomas McKeon I can offer information which I hope helps. I believe it is the same. I had a small family bible passed on to me by late grandmother who was historian in the State of Vermont. I am a native Vermonter, now residing in Maine.
Feel strongly that this is the same Thomas McKeon. If so, he married my grandmoms sister- Maiden name 'Fitzpatrick'. Thomas and his wife -Fitzpatrick had one child named Mary.
Mary never married. Thomas McKeon's wife (need to refer to my family documents which aren't in front of me currently, sorry) as to great-aunt Fitzpatricks first name-(Thomas's wife). Thomas, his wife and daughter Mary are buried in family cemetery in Pittsford Vermont. There was a wonderful inscription inside cover of small leather bible which belonged to Thomas who departed Ireland in as I recall 1841. The inscription was by his dear friend Dennis McCullough 'bidding him safe passage from this country Ireland'. It was hand-written script pen. Unfortunately a book dealer pocketed the treasured bible! I've been searching for it and determined to track it down. The small bible was called "The Imitation of Christ' published in Dublin. It had been passed down through our family. His daughter Mary (after her parents death) resided with my grandmothers family thereafter for remainder of her life. It is well documented that Mary was an extremely beautiful woman, combined with the wording of handsome woman. A very determined, intelligent young woman, and ahead of her time. Courted after by many young men in that area, but she chose to remain single. My grandmoms mothers maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Fitzpatrick. She married my gr grandfather Robert H. Drake.
Thomas McKeon married Mary E.Fitzpatricks sister in Pittsford (Rutland County) Vermont. R.R. Drake and Son was one of the first mercantile business established in Pittford Vermont. Gr Gr grandfather Robert Ransom Drake (R.R.Drake) passed the business on to his son Robert H.Drake who was my gr grandfather. They were well honored/respected in the Town of Pittsford's History and contributed much to that town. It's been some time since visiting the family plot where Thomas McKeon, his wife and daughter Mary are buried. Assure you it's beautiful. A large section of the cemetery is all Fiztpatricks, Duffy's, Drakes and beside my gr grand fathers plot is where Thomas, his wife and Mary are buried. Thomas was born in Ireland- Need to look up the files that my grandmom left me and can write you again with Thomas McKeon's birthdate, when married, date when he deceased. As I recall he died in his 40's. If you would like to contact me, my name is Kate. Email address- ryderzup@gmail.com Feel strongly after reading your online posting that this is the Thomas McKeon that you were searching for. Hope so! Studying family lineage is infinite but most comforting/rewarding when we are able to tie all together.
Respectfully
Kate W.
