Her mother Bida Ann married two more times after William Richards death, and was listed as a mulatto in one census and white in two others. People were listed as mulatto if not entirely white in census prior to 1880, including Native Americans living in a white household. I have a photo of a very Native looking woman taken around 1870 that my grandmother told me was her great grandmother who was a Cherokee. I didn't ask her name, and now my grandmother has passed. I am trying to discern if this Native looking woman is Eliza Chambers McCoin.
