Yes Noggin, that is my grandmother and grandfather.She was born in 1897 and he was born in 1891.Her Mother was Mary Etta Sherland,Sherlin,or Sherlon,They were both living in the Home of James A. Webb when the 1910 census was taken,but the info was put down wrong I believe, They have James A, down as James J, They have Mary Etta as just Etta and they have Ollie L. surname as Sherley. I did find a Mary Etta Sherlin and an Ollie living in Henry Sherlins' home in North Carolina during the 1900 census and Ollie was 3 years of age and was listed as his granddaughter.According to what I have discovered Mary Etta was Born in NC. I would really like to find out who was
Ollies' father and Who she married after my grandfather died. I heard from my father a long time ago that she had remarried and was living in SC.I believe she had a couple more children. Also she had 2 more children with George,Harding my father and Maud.hope this helps you.

By reading the above it would appear Mary was not married at the time of Ollie's birth. It states her father was Henry Sherlin but mother unknown.

This looks like the same family in 1870. Mothers name as changed Jane E to Betsey so Henry may have remarried or it is her middle name (Elizabeth ?) Spelling of surname is spelt different again. It looks like Hydin Sherling is Mary/Etta's Grandfather.

Thanks noggin, I believe that Henry Sherlins father was Byrd Sherlin sometimes spelled Bird Sherlen. I think the problem is that the spelling of the names depended on the census taker as some or most of these people could not read or write. It looks like I might never discover who Ollies father really was and as a result part of my ancestry will always be missing. As far as the other grandmother Carrie Bell Kieffer on my mothers side, looks like I'm having the same problem.I can not discover the correct spelling of her last name. Could be Werner, Verner, Wagner, Warner,Wager,or Waggoner. Wish me luck,and thanks for your help.--Bev
