Looking for Info on Progeny of John Coleman Hardesty and Mary Jane Fuller
I am trying to locate names of descendants of John Coleman Hardesty and Mary Jane Fuller. John descended from from James Hardesty and Mary Ann Tuttle of Oberlin Ohio. Mary Jane is my grandmother's aunt, and her sister is my great-great grandmother, Isabelle Fuller Hardesty. Isabelle was married to James Frankin Hardesty, John's brother. I have all the info on my direct line...I knew many of my ancestors, including many of my grandmother's aunts and uncles, and grew up knowing all about them. But not until I moved to Colorado did I learn that Mary Jane and John had lived and farmed in Johnstown, CO, near where I now live. I have been to their graves, and I know the names of their children, which I have listed below. I have not found any more info on the children or grandchildren. There are several Hardestys buried in Longmont, but I cannot tell if I am related to them. I wonder if I have living relatives here in Boulder County or Weld County.
I can provide pictures of The graves I have found, if anyone wants them. I also have a picture of John and Mary Jane and some of their children, I think. All are adults in the picture. Thank you if you can help me fill out this branch of my family. for some reason, I feel very close to Mary Jane and want to know more about her.
According to the Obituary John and Mary Jane married in Columbus Junction, Iowa, April 10th, 1875 so they may have moved around.
John Colman Hardesty's Obituary
John Coleman Hardesty was born in Iowa, November 15, 1848, and entered the gates of the western portal April 20, 1927, at an age of 78, at Elwell, Colo.
Death knocks at every man’s door, and it is indeed a great comfort and consolation to have the hope of life eternal, so that the grave has no victory and death no sting.
We are inclined to mourn the loss of our loved ones, but they are not lost. They have simply departed this physical body to enter into the more complete and spiritual life with God the Father.
The soul is divine, it is essentially spiritual, and its true destiny is the home of our Creator, the One whom we call Love. Thus we have no fear, even though we may be filled with sorrow at the earth’s parting, for “the soul had returned unto God who gave it.”
Throughout all of life we should “Set our affections on things above, not on things on the earth,” that our lives be “hid with Christ in God,” meaning that the abundant life as lived by the Master be the goal of our labors both here and hereafter.
It is a pleasure to record the fact that the union of Mr. Hardesty to Mary Jane Fuller at Columbus Junction, Iowa, April 10th, 1875, 52 years ago, has been devoted to the service of mankind, to God, to their children and friends.
To this union were born ten children. Homer, who died in 1916; Roy, of Morrill, Nebraska; Minne, who died in 1882; Mrs. Mira Goodwin, of Ringling, Montana; Rob, of Henry, Nebr.’ Jet, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Mrs. Delia Herter and Mrs. Susie Alexander, of Johnstown; Charles, of Steamboat Springs; and Mrs. Janniew [sic] Davis of Long Beach, Calif., all of whom are present today.
In addition to his wife and children, who mourn the earthly departure of this loved one, is a sister, Mrs. Susan Reed, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, 28 grandchildren, one great granddaughter and a number of relatives and a host of friends.
Though the clouds hang low laden with sorrow, we do not, we cannot despair, for we all must look unto Him who said: Let not your heart be troubled, My Peace I leave with you. Be of good cheer I have overcome the world.”
So in this hour though we say:
“Dearest Father, thou has left us,
Here, thy loss we deeply feel;
But ‘tis God that has bereaved us”
We can also say:
“He can all our sorrows Heal.”

I love this minister! I still have tears in my eyes from the obituary, which I am sure was also the funeral service. How beautiful! They did move around a lot. They had a farm in Johnstown, CO, but she died in Sheridan WY, where I see they also had lived. and I had assumed one of the boys probably lived.
Thank you so much for this information. I shall start looking for Herter and Alexander relatives now.
Thank you so much for all of this wonderful information.
By the way, Mary Jane Josephine Fuller was born October 4, 1857.
Thank you again.
