Looking for Info on William W Kirchner Birth Around 1865 IN TX

This is my mother father and we know so little about him. He served in WWI in France and was gassed. He came back to Hot Springs SD and went to Rolla area of MO. I am wonder if he may have served in Panama in building the canal.
