Looking for Information on Emil W Graff of California OR Family Members of Graff
My name is Kim Elisa Graff, i am the daughter of Edmond Henry Graff. My father had a sister Miriam Graff which passed away not too long ago in 2010 i think, also my father had another daughter from his first marriage to Kathleen ? her name is Gloria Graff, i know my father mentioned that his mother's name was Helen Bellsmith and i don't have any other information as to this, my father also has a brother which i think his name is Emil W.Graff Jr and they called him Will and called my father Bud when they were young, my father is eighty nine years old and is now residing in a nursing home in Alabama and i would love to be able to meet some of the Graff family that i have not met, also i do know that my father's brother was some type of eye doctor and possibly still is if he is still alive. If my father happens to pass away, i don't know how to get in touch with his family to let them know of his passing or even if i could get in touch with his family members that are alive maybe they could come see him before he does pass, if anyone knows of any information on any of this family that is still alive please let me know or let me know of some of the Graff's family history which i am looking for. Also i am looking for my mother's side information due to she passed away when i was 14 yrs old and i dont know much about her either. Her name was Gladys Louise Connell born Nov 11, 1928? On my birth certificate she was from Pennsylvania.
Hello kim,
You have many famous ancestors. Be sure to click every link below for a wonderful read and journey into your past ...
- (and this is only one ancestral line !!)
this is a family tree for the Bellsmith Family
It has Frances Helen BELLSMITH born in 1902
- she married Emil W. GRAFF (1901-1989)
- their children were:
Miriam Graff
- she married Roy Glen WILSON
Edmund/Edmond Henry Graff
- Edmund had Gloria & Emil Graff
Frances Helen Bellsmith remarried to James A. WILSON
Your fathers maternal granparents were:
Eustace John BELLSMITH (1873-?)
- he was born in Penge, Surrey, England
- he married Frances Helen VICKERY {1881-1920}
- they had at least 5 children
His great grandparetns were:
Henry Wentworth BELLSMITH (1849-1926)
- Henry was born in England, one of 12 children of artist John Smith
- one of his brothers was the famous artist Frederick Marlett Bellsmith [1846-1923] who followed in his father's footsteps as an artist studying under the tutelage of his father, John Bellsmith
- THE WORKS of Frederick
- their youngest sister Florence Rosalind Bellsmith [1864-1942] married a well known missionary, Jonathan GOFORTH, they had 11 children and she wrote a number of books about his work
- Henry married Susanna Annie STARCH (d.1920-1922)
- they had 5 children then moved to Toronto, Ontario
- they divorced in 1888
- Henry remarried to Caroline Anne TAYLOR (1866-1953), moved to New York in 1891 and they had 3 children
- his 1st wife Susanaa and children stayed in Toronto (Susanna died in Toronto)
- after Henry's death in New York Caroline moved to Florida
- of interest to you, one of their daughters, Evangeline Mary "Eva" Bellsmith (Hills) also became an artist
- Of a LOT MORE INTEREST to you is the theory on Henry being JACK THE RIPPER (read the forum at his link), his landlord E Callaghan claimed to have reported his suspicions to the police in August 1888, but the police later claimed they had no record of any such visit. Callaghan then somehow reported his suspicions to Forbes Winslow around August 1889. Winslow seems to have been convinced that this man was the Ripper, and he published statements to that effect in the newspaper (originally in Illustrated Police News Sep 27, 1889?)

His great great grandparents were:
John BELL-SMITH (1810-1883) (note surname)
- he was born John SMITH in Rotherhithe, Kent, England and was an artist. Because there were so many John Smith as artsts he added the name of one of his friends, BELL
- he married Georgina Maria BODDY (d.1887) in 1845
- they had 12 children (8 sons & 4 daughters)
His great great great grandparents were:
John SMITH & Maria PARKER
- their only child was John Smith above
Thank you so much for this information. My father just passed away on April 15, 2011. He served in the Marine's and was laid to rest on April 17, 2011 with a full Military Service. He was dressed in Military dress blues and he would have been so happy that I did this in his honor. I could not find his brother to inform him of my father's death. I am not too good looking up people on the computer but I do know his name is Emil W Graff Jr and i think he is an optamologist or something like that. I wished i could have let him known but since he lived in California my father and he didn't talk very much. Thank you for the information you have given me, this is great just to read and ponder over and it has shown me a lot of things that must have been passed down to me through genes due to i love art and should be an artist myself. Again thank you so much for your time.
I don't know too much about my mothers side of the family either, she passed away when i was 14 yrs old. I do know that on my birth certificate she lived in Pennsylania and her full name was Gladys Louise Connell but there was some issues due to their father changed his last name to Hubbard, so my mother's brother's name is Johnny Earl Hubbard. So that tells me at the time my mother was born even though they had the same father her father must have been going under Connell at the time of her birth in 1928? My mother passed away in 1980 and i am left not knowing about my mother's side of the family either. Any help i can get on my mother's side of the family would be greatly appreciated.
