Reported to marry one John Alexander Stuart about 1884.
Had several children at a place called Mount Korong, in Victoria, Australia
John died 1924 in Inglewood, Victoria, Australia
Have followed the children.
However the wife's death continues to elude me.

Thanks steve74,
Not James, should be John, he was named after his father, it really should be recorded as John Alexander Jr., as it appears his fathers' middle name was also Alexander.

Steve74,
Can you help me a bit further?
(Daughter of J.A.Stuart) Mary Alicia Stuart 1895 - 1980
Married ??? Laird
Had two(2) Children by him
And then seems to dissapear.
I realise that he may be too recent to retrieve data, but what research I have been able to do, "seems" to indicate that he may have died in WW1, and that she remarried again, to a M.W.Brown and had another child.

Thanks Bob.

Have two deaths for you.

DEATH.
Name: Sinclair LAIRD.
Died: 1961, Bendigo, Victoria.
Age: 79 years.
Father: Donald LAIRD.
Mother: Isabel DITCHUM.
Ref: VDI #18944.

If this is the same Sinclair LAIRD married to Mary Alicia STUART in 1921 he never died in WW1.

DEATH.
Name: Mary Alicia LAIRD.
Died: 1980, Dandenong, Victoria.
Age: 84 years.
Father: John STUART.
Mother: Isabella unknown.
Ref: VDI Reg #06612.

This appears to be the death of your Mary Alicia LAIRD, nee STUART, but I'm not sure why her death is recorded under LAIRD, if she remarried to M W BROWN.

BobEvans

No, you are correct, my research was obviously floored, it would seem that she did not re-marry.
As my dates were referring to a much earlier time(1916/1918), so I thank you once again.
I just thought I was "stuck" (brain freeze??) and once again people like Steve74 and yourself come along and pull out the proverbial "rabbit from the hat."

Thank you & steve74 for your assistance.

This is Sinclair's brother Kenneth

THE LATE PRIVATE K. LAIRD. Pompapiel, 15th July.
Profound regret was expressed throughout the district when the news of the death from wounds of one of our fine soldiers, viz., Private Kenneth Laird, of Calivil, was re- ceived yesterday. Deceased was a fine stamp of the sturdy young farmer, and was a pro- mninent footballer in the Calivil team. Prior to his departure for the front he married Miss Mary O'Byrne, who has since resided with her parents in Neale-street, Bendigo. Her only brother was reported missing after the landing at Gallipoli, and it was subse- quently ascertained that he had been drowned, and the shock so affected their mother that she died from heart failure. Private Laird leaves four brothers, residents of Calivil, Messrs. Len, Sinclair, Donald and Norman Laird, and one sister, Mrs. J. Bogie, also residing in Calivil. The last letters received from Private Laird were dated from France.Fix this text

WOW!! I was close, I thought that Kenneth was the husband of Mary and had been killed in the War.
WOW!1, how about that, I do know she later re-married to a M.W.Brown and had a child by him.
But little did i know it was in fact his brother. Excellent work. :)

Thank you, steve74.

28th July 1913, Bendigo Advertiser
Another old resident of Calivil, in the person of Mr. Donald Craig Laird, has (writes our Pompapiel correspondent) pass- ed away. The deceased gentleman had not been in good health for some time, and his death was not unexpected. His wife pre- deceased him by 15 years. Mr. and Mrs. Laird came to Victoria from Tasmania some 40 years ago, and soon after his ar- riral Mr. Laird took up the management of the East Loddon Estate, a position he occupied for 20 years. He afterwards en- tered upon farming pursuits at Calivil with his brother (Mr. Wm. Laird), who died two years ago. The deceased gentleman was for many years a member of the East Loddon Shire Council. A family of four sons and one daughter (Mrs. Bogie) sur- vive him all being grown up and residing
in Calivil. Deceased's remains were in-
terred in the Pompapiel Cemetery.
