I am writing a family history of the Jarden family.Alexander Jordean was married to Catherine Matthews at the First Presbyterian Church in Lurgan Northern Ireland on 19 Nov 1858.The spelling of the surname I believe is incorrect as their 2 children born in Ireland ( William Matthews and Isabella) have Jarden as the surname.Alexander had a brother James who went to Australia and a sister Bess. Alexander and Catherine came to NZ in 1862 on the Zealandia with Isabella. William came 20 years later. They had 2 children in Christchurch: James b. 1864 ( my great great grandfather) and Alexander b. 13 Oct 1865.

Alexander drowned in the Waimakariri River while delivering beer to the Courtney Arms hotel on 31 May 1867 and was buried in Christchurch. The family were living in Gloucester Street. Catherine died 24 July 1187 and is buried at Addington Cemetery.
