THOM (nee Culross). — On August 8, at 21 Wright-street, Perth, Margaret Edward, relict of James Thom, (late Wagin and York), loving mother of John C., late Aggie, Jane and Robert B. W.; grandmother of Dorothy and Jack. A faithful follower gone home. The West Australian 10th August 1928
Any extra information helps. Do you know where his wife is buried? Have you checked the physical records for Karrakatta Cemetery or just online? Many online records are not complete or accurate. A James William Thom died in 1924, buried at Karrakatta Cemetery. He is not on the online database.
His wife Margaret Edwards Thom is buried at Karrakatta baptist section. Do I have to go to cemetery to check physical records? I only started searching yesterday so I am very new at this. I also cannot find their migration to Australia records. Any suggestions? Thanks
Sorry just realised I gave you the name of his mother not wife.Wife is Minnie Brenda Grant was Thom but remarried surname Grenfell. Buried karrakatta also, Cheers
Give me an hour or so and I will have a look. The Thom family did come from Scotland in the 1880's. I am not familiar with Western Australian Records, but I am sure if you contact the Karrakatta cemetery they will have a look. In Victoria the local council hold most records or even micro-fiche at the local library. There should also be a Cemetery Trust in Perth that managers Karrakatta. It is a shame that I can't find a funeral notice for him
Yes it is the funeral notice that I cannot find. I found death notice under trove website died October 9th 1936 I think at Wooroloo Sanitorium for TB just near Northam. It was not published till October 22nd 1936. I have checked Cemeteries WA board with no result. Yes they did come from Scotland (Forfarshire).
