Looking for John Laing of Arbroath Scotland
I have a copy of the army discharge papers for my gg grandfather John Laing. According to those papers he was born in Arbroath in 1793. I haven't been able to find any further information on him.

Do you know if John had any sisters? These are the only two I could find between 1790-1800

Thank you for the response. I have no idea if there were any sisters. I have one other distant relative in the UK who may have some info. I will enquire and post another reply. The dates and place certainly look promising!
I haven't been able to confirm either way if these ladies are sisters of my ancestor John Laing. My relative in the UK has no info as this is the first he's heard of them.
I wonder why the girls baptisms were recorded but not the male in between?
Thank you again for your help
Have you tried Scotlands People site, it shows three John Laing's born between 1790 & 1795 in Angus County.
He may not have been born in Arbroath, but close by, the family may have moved for work. Does the discharge papers give you any idea on his occupation before his discharge, usually they followed the fathers occupation, which might help narrow him down.
Thank you for that idea. Yes he's listed as a book binder on his discharge papers so he may have been apprenticed before he joined the army (at age 16)as I'd be surprised if he learnt that trade in the army!
