Looking for John Mcdonald OR James Maskeryt

Looking for John McDonald born abt 1848 county cavan ireland. Worked in NZ from abt 1870 till death in 1884. I am great grandchild and looking for more info on John. His coronial report stated that he came to the colonies with a James Maskery and that John's father was also called John. Anyone researching this line? Ngaire
