Thank you Tonkin. Mary Ann Wilson was my Great-Great-Grandmother. As far as I can make out, when they married, she had been a widow for more than 10 years, and was 71years old. Does this sound right to you? What happened to Josiah? Are you related to them? Regards, sulphercrest.
I'm not related and just trying to give you a helping hand. It's a bad habit I have.
The best way to obtain a few more details to assist with your research would be to obtain the marriage certificate for Josiah and Mary. This will give your their ages, parents names, places of birth, their status when married and a few more details.
If Mary was 71 and a widow when she married Josiah it explains why I did not locate any children for them. I also expect Josiah was a widower when he married Mary.
Will have a look at the death records for Josiah.
Mary's death details would also help if you have them.
Thank you again. Actually I do have the death cert, and it was the proximity of the two dates that caught my attention, as did the note that she had died of dementia. I have been looking for the marriage cert., without success, but now that I have the right spelling will try again. Again, thank you so much for your help.
This Josiah ROBERTS is worth looking at. He was two years older than Mary so may be the one you seek. This is the best I can do without knowing his birth year.
I've run across Josiah Roberts on the rolls before, he was a butcher in North Melbourne. Is it him or Joshua you want? 'spose you don't know. I'll look for whichever one is partnered with a Mary Ann Marian.
Thank you both so much. I will follow up all these leads. It surprises me just how hooked I can get at following up these threads, but it is the details that turn ancestors into real people.
I updated an old journal today for Richard Matthew WILSON and Mary Ann BENNETT. I have not found a marriage for them but they did have ten children born in Richmond and Port Melbourne between 1865 and 1882.
This Mary Ann BENNETT was also recorded as Marian BENNETT. Her husband Richard Matthew WILSON died in 1905 aged 66 years. Going by your information I think this may be your Mary Ann BENNETT who remarried in 1917 to Josiah ROBERTS.
