Looking for Laird Jordan Genealogy

I'm new at this. Recently when I asked some questions about our family history,I was told by my Aunt that she didn't think my great-grandfather's name was his real name. There apparently was rumor that he killed a black man in Louisiana and came to Texas and changed his name. I am so curious, I want to find out all about our family. I look forward to the journey.
