Looking for Lewis Clifton of Spartanburg South Carolina IN the Early 1800s

I have off-and-on been researching my Dad's father's family. Hopefully, we will learn more about my paternal grandfather, who died when my Dad was 9 months. I've made the following connections: Tolbert Lewis Clifton - William Daniel Clifton - Lewis Clifton - Brinkley Clifton. It seems the Clifton family is pretty tight-lipped when discussing ancestors. Since I am now retired, I have more time to devote to my search.
