Thanks for reply. I have same information - she is my Grandmother - however I cannot locate any information prior to her birth in 1874 or about her family members - very frustrating. Have tried many avenues. I have great details of Burr family but not hers!
I know this below doesn't seem like much but with the connection of the two names, the relationships and the suburb, there just may be a clue: The Argus ,Monday 13 August 1917 MATLOCK.-On the 11th August, at her residence,323 Moray street, South Melbourne, Louisa Ellen, beloved wife of the late John Matlock, and loving mother of Ernest, James, and Ada Matlock, loving sister of A. Bentley and the late Maria Butterworth, L. Tonken, W. A. Blair, also the late Phillip and Lillie Blair, Mrs. R. C. Burr, and loving aunt of Louisa Blair, Mrs. W. R. Gunn, and W. Blair, jun. (Private interment.) Sadly missed, and deeply mourned by all.
Are these the details you have for Mabel's birth and marriage of parents?
BIRTH.
Name: Florence Mabel BLAIR. Born: 1874 in Emerald Hill. (East Melbourne) Father: William Robert BLAIR. Mother: Maria BENTLEY. Ref: VBI #2213.
MARRIAGE.
Groom: William BLAIR. BrideL Maria BENTLEY. Year married: 1853. Place: St James C of E, Melbourne, Victoria. Ref: VMI #6417.
When looking at the birth records William BLAIR and Maria BENTLEY had no children between 1853 and 1873. Then Florence Mabel is born in 1874.
If you have the birth certificate for Florence it should also name her siblings born before her.
Names I'm looking for on Florence's birth certificate include:
- Letitia or Lititia. - Louisa Ellen. - William Amos. - Elizabeth Agnes. - Robert Gilbert. - Marion Florence.
If I'm reading the records correctly Maria BENTLEY was also recorded on the birth and death records of her children as OBRIEN, CROTTY and ROACH. Children named on Florence's birth certificate should confirm Maria's previous children.

several of the children in the Matlock death have listed mother as Maria with different surnames on their death details.

and I found this, which might help with Maria's name, or possible cause more confusion.

It is strange, the only way to know for sure is to get a copy of William & Maria Bentley's marriage and a copy of one or two of the childrens births.
The Argus, Friday 28 March 1952 Brothers' romances keep 'in step' to 50th wedding anniversary Two brothers celebrated their golden wedding anniversaries on the same day yesterday. They met their wives at the same dance at the Temperance Hall, South Melbourne, in 1894. and married in a double ceremony at the same church in Heidelberg in 1902. The couples are Mr. Robert Burr. 80, and his wife, 78, of Danks st., Albert Park; and Mr. Duncan Burr, 78, and Mrs. Burr, 78, of Gnarwyn rd.. Carnegie. Mrs. Robert Burr said yesterday that it was "love at first sight" when she saw her husband. Mrs. Duncan Burr said that her husband was "not her first beau, but he was the best. "That is why I married him." she said. "And this is not our first anniversary together," Mr.Robert Burr said. "Each year we spend the day together and recall the 'roaring nineties.' Mr. Robert Burr is well known to Flemington racegoers. He was a gatekeeper there for many years. More than 50 guests went to the anniversary party at the home of Mr. Duncan Burr.
Tonkin and Janilye - How wonderful! Thanks you. Details coincide with recollections and names I have from my childhood now that I read them. Birthplace of Emerald Hill I knew but didn't realize it was East Melbourne or Victoria. Caulfield as place she died is in relation to her living with my family at the time until she was admitted to Caulfield Rehab.. hospital but didn't survive.. I have been discussing your info with my Sister and she has some similar info but I didn't recall that she did! (Typical). She has Mabel's birth certificate among her paperwork (but unavailable at present)- she is certain she is registered as Mabel Florence. I now have something to work with and unfold family tree further. If it is not impertinent to ask, what is your connection? no obligation to answer.
OOPs -- to asheppard. Sorry, the page with your information appeared when I replied to Tonkin & Janilye - your info adds to their details and to my resources now and I am most grateful. Do you have some family connection? Janilye, (Thanks - more info!)I recall the double 50th anniversary very well and it was a most happy occasion.

Louisa Matlock before she died managed a theatre company in Clarendon St., South Melbourne. along with her son Ernest.
Going by the above I expect these will be the deaths for Mabel's parents.
