I am trying to sort out my ancestral trail. I am originally from Ireland. The clan I belong to is Maccathmhaoil. Over the years there have been various forms of this name. Some of the names were McCall - McCaul - MacCawell - and even Campbell.

I believe the family origin was around the area of Tyrone in Ireland. I believe my great great grandfather David and his wife Maargaret (possibly Baggs) went to the USA in approx. 1848. His son James McCaul was married to a Bridget Campbell and they lived in Newry in Northern Ireland. The surname within the family has been spelt McCaul and McCall.

For a number of years I have been contacted or made contact with various McCaul/McCall families some of whom were definitely related, others have family members with the same or similar naming pattern for their children.

Any contact with possible family would be a great help. Who knows your information may bring the family back together again.
