Nathaniel was a teacher, journalist, newspaper editor. He emigrated from Ireland to New Zealand c. 1920/1930. After retirement, he was a sheep farmer. Don't know if he had family in NZ. Would love someone to contact me re. this, PLEASE.

This doesn't fit with your dates (the marriage I mean) but I found a New Zealand marriage in 1895 (reg.no.1895/2398) between Bride Eleanor COWPER and Groom Nathaniel Alfred WINTER. He died 1942 (reg.no.1942/23254) aged 81yrs.

Found two possible children's births:- Eileen Eva WINTER born 1897 and William Maurice WINTER born 1904 New Zealand.

Hi,

Found on this site Winters Family

Nathaniel Alfred Winter (1861-1942) was born in County Limerick, Ireland
He was the son of William Winter and Jane Gardiner (later resident in County Cork)

.. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1910 at 49 years of age
.. He was a teacher by profession and later took up journalism and owned or edited the Taumarunui Press
.. He originally lived in Auckland
.. In about 1913 he published a book entitled 'The King Country'
.. On his retirement he took up sheep farming and had an island which he appropriately named "Winter Island".

As allycat said he passed away in 1942 at the age of 81

Hi,
I am a grand-nephew of Nathaniel Alfred Winter (1861-1942.
His obit. stated that he was survived by his wife and a married son Maurice. He was predeceased by his daughter Eileen "who died some years ago" He was author of a number of books including `Taumarunui Old and New' (1913)The King country: --recollections of an old timer(1937)
Northern King country: Random sketches (1938). The obit has quite a lot of detail but is not dated.

I have a William Winters in my family tree. He was born in Nov 1845 in Co Limerick
I regret that I have nothing further and wondered if he survived the famine of 1844/46
He and his family came from the Kilfinane area
Refer www.winters-online.net/winters/
We do know that a John Winters travelled from Ireland to Australia via New Zealand in about 1880 settling in New South Wales
