Looking for NORRIS of Arkansas with Cherokee ancestors.

Query by ltaylor091969

Georgia Mary Bradley Gray is my g, g, g, grandmother who was 1/4 Cherokee Indian. She is not on the Dawes Roll so our family does not have a assigned number. I'm looking for any information that will help me trace my Cherokee Indian ancestors prior to Georgia Mary Norris Gray. She was born around 1842 and married a Thomas Gray.

Georgia Mary Bradley Gray is also my grgrgrgrandmother. She married married James Addison Gray and they had Martha Temperence Gray. Martha married John Weathersby Norris. They had Lula Norris who married Thomas Crawford Coleman-my great-grandparents on my mom's side. That is all I have been able to find out about the Norris/Gray families til I saw your post here. This means we are cousins. How cool!! I would love any info on the Norris/Gray families that you can share. Thanks cousin

In reply to - Itaylor regarding a Thomas Gray. I have recently started my husbands family tree. Alexander Marshall Gray b.9/24/1868 Searcy Co, AR. is his gfather. Alexander's father is Thomas Jefferson Gray b.Jan 21 1845, Lincoln, Co. Tenn. His mother is Mary Parks. Thomas Jefferson Gray died May 20, 1929, in Marshall, AR Searcy County. On the 1870 census of Bear Creek Township in Searcy Co. Ar. It shows Thomas J. Gray and Mary C Gray as having 2 boys. George F. Gray, b 2/2/1867 Searcy Co. AR. and died before 1884 in Searcy Co Ar. The other son is Alexander M. Gray, my husbands grandfather. I don't know who he married. Alexander had 3 daughters, Della, Nellie and Dottie Gray. Dottie is my husbands mother. She married Samuel Ernest Robinson in 1918.

My great-grandmother was named Jessie Myrtle Gray, who married Joseph Clarence Coombs in April of 1907. They lived and died in the Kansas City, MO area. She's rumored to be full blood Cherokee, but no one in my family actually knows for certain. My grandmother, Opal Marie Coombs, married Richard Bertel Norris in January of 1944. Jessie's sister was, Cora Gray. She married James Denman Coombs. I believe my great-grandmother and her sister are related to this line.
