I am a researcher, looking for The One Name Study, of all Ditcham names including woman who were Ditcham born or/and married with Maiden name Ditcham.
Included in this is the name of all variants, some being Ditchom, Ditchem, Ditchen, there are at least 17or more variants or Translated mistakes. Most common translated mistakes, being the t in Ditcham written in old English, it looks like Dickham or like so. Only Birth certificates can prove these.?? I have a lot of names on Hard Paper and trying to form families out of them. Starting Backwards from 1600, currently looking at 1900 period.

The names changed so much after 1700 period until it settled and generally 18oo to 1900 period Immigration made a lot of mistakes in interpreting written or the inability of people to read and write, and different languages, causing spelling spelling error in accents, of the spoken word. All areas of the world, seem to have a Ditcham or the French Variation of DuDuchan or Du-dgeon, Advertisements in local papers, have caused Havoc, as the runour that there is a lot of money to be had, has come through since John Ditcham, arrived in Australia, using the name Ditchan and Ditchman, also including Ditchom. Many believe to have found his heritage, have been noted to be wrong, because his name was not the correct spelling, or he was a Ditchen, probably given away or adopted by the family name of Detcham.

If birth certificate can prove he was either born out of Wedlock, as rumours say, or John Ditcham born in America in 1808 and died in 1838 may have had a boy child eithin in or out of Welock. Another John Ditcham born in 1808 fame from Germany, probably changed his name to Ditch, as Dietcham was a German spelling, and the history of the Ditcham name came either German speaking and French, from Sir (DuDucheon)
