Hi i was wondering if Mary ann ewington married name was of aboriginal. mary ann is my great great grandmother her daughter linda may deverall was my great grandmother.

Hi Time has past since your first query and you may have the answers. Mary Ann is registered under the misspelled name of Newington 18/12/1861. My query relates to Ellen. Is she Ann Ewington born 18/10/1864? There appear to be no more records of Ann but Ellen is noted by other family trees being born on the same day. If this Ann is Ellen, then I suggest that her mother my Grandmother x2, Ann Simmons was born of Woretemoeteyenner and George Briggs and raised by his friend John Simmons and Catherine Tobin. I have not found a birth record for Ann Simmons. It is stated that Woretemoeteyenner's three daughters were given to European families. It is considered that Ann Simmons was born before John and Catherine were married. The Keeps may have the missing links to Ann Simmons origins.

Hi Rex53, I found your comment because I have been looking for the Ann Simmons and Woretemoeteyenner connection. My DnA test along with that of my cousins links me to Woretemoeteyenner however official records only show as far back as Ann being the daughter of John and Catherine. I would love to understand this better and whether there are any records that support it?
Thank you,
Clare

Hi Clarec and rex53,
I am also a descendant of Ann Simmons and first husband William Keep. I have only just discovered Ann was not the child of John and Catherine, specifically because Catherine had given birth to a baby Thomas and lost him that same year Ann was born. I have also found info stating Ann was from the stolen generation written by a Ewington. Where have you heard about the Woretemoeteyenner connection. I am sure Ann Simmons is definately of aboriginal descent, but can't find proof of this connection?

I should have mentioned my grandmother Ennis Olive was a Keep. Descendant of Charles Keep and Jane Carey

Hi JayneIs I’m sorry it’s has taken me so long to reply, I’ve only just come back to this. I read it and the reasoning was the same as what you have mentioned, that Catherine couldn’t have been Ann’s biological mother first of all. Secondly, myself, my sister, and my cousin all have DNA testing that shows a link to Woretemoeteyenner through Ann Simmons being her biological daughter, and we also have links to people who are descending from
woretemoeteyenner’s other children, with no other way that we could be related unless this was the case.
We really want to speak to the researcher who first published the theory about Ann being “given” to Catherine to raise, will keep you posted on anything we find.
