Looking for Relatives of James Maher and Margaret Barry Who Came from Tipperary to Settle Into Australia
I, like many other MAHER researchers have hit a brick wall in regards to finding out how James and Margaret got to Australia from Tipperary, Ireland.....
Would appreciate help from anyone who know the ship that they sailed on.. i have researched the 'Ship's List' for South Australian arrivals and can not find them....
Anyone who has any history of this family, please contact me as there are others who are waiting for that one person who knows something to help us all....
Any MAHER photo's that you have would be appreciated as well.... i'm very good at random acts of kindess.. and i would love to reward you....
Happy researching....
Carolyn
Any idea of when, and ages
Hi SilverVixen
Here's the info that i have....
James Maher is the son of Thomas Maher and Honora Brien....
He married Margaret Mary Barry who was born in 1839. Wedding date is unknown...
They 'may have' arrived by the ship 'Octavia' at Port Adelaide, South Australia on July 19th 1855. The records show a 'Mr James Maher and wife' on board...
Using the 'digger' discs, i've found that they had 9 children in Victoria... They are William Joseph, Honora, Mary, Thomas, David, James, John, Margaret and Denis.
I searched 'tipp' in the place section of the digger pioneer disc and only 1 marriage from Tipperary came up. It was for a William Maher... not James....
I've been researching this family for years, and only recently have i found other's who are researching them as well... and we are all stuck at the 'proving the source' part of the immigration into Australia.
SilverVixen... do you know where else i can search for proof?
Thanks for answering my query...
