Hello Nigel. From the book 'Pahiatua - A Historical History': In 1884 A W Sedcole, an early settler, started the first school in Pahiatua in his house. In 1886 A W Sedcole donated the bricks for the construction of the first library. Photographs show him as a member of the Pahiatua Borough Council 1896 and 1904. Sedcole Street, Pahiatua is named after him.
