Dear Coolabah, Hi there. Welcome to FamilyTreeCircles. This site works best if you enter the surnames that your journals/research is about at the bottom of each of your journals. That way surnames link back to surname wiki pages.

377 records for STEAD in the Debt of Honour List - Commonwealth War Graves Commission

25 records for James STEAD in the National Archives of Australia. Shows migration / enlistment data / digitsed records etc.

Can anyone please give me some tips on how to find out more info on the family tree, or how I may be able to contact the nieces and nephews of my grandad?

Click on STEAD and you will see the surname wiki page for lots of genie links.

Regarding this journal, more info required: Q.What State of Australia did your STEADs settle?

Try White Pages online - Australia for relatives.

And/or post your family tree at TribalPages - your free family tree website.

My family of STEAD's settled in N.S.W. and South Australia.

Ok, thanks for that. Are you familiar with researching the nsw bdm indexes online for free? If not, I can coach you through it.

There seems to have been a great deal of STEAD family members living in NSW, Australia.

NSW Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, Australia

I highly recommend seeing if any family members have birth, death and marriage certificates that you can photocopy for your records. This will definitely reduce duplication and keep costs down. I mainly purchased bdm certs for mainline ancestors only, e.g. grandparents, then great grandparents, great great grandparents etc. And then I only purchased siblings of my g.grands etc to fill in some blanks.

Once you have gathered a fair bit of data, post a journal back here on familytreecircles including dates, locations, all children's names, who you think they married etc.

Q.How are you going to/how do you store your family tree data?

This is a great site for SA...

EMIGRATION TO AUSTRALIA
I couldn't find your STEAD family at the National Archives of Australia website. That's the first place to look.

Kind regards,
Alison QLD.

Oh and once you have accumulated a fair bit of information you can start tracking your STEAD ancestors back through the Census years starting at 1901 (then working back every 10yrs to 1841) in the UK via the rootschat.com site. Click on STEAD above to goto the surname wiki page.

I just added heaps of great links for your surname. It appears there's a one name study in the UK for this surname. I'd definitely contact them if I were you. Looks like there were STEADs on the Titanic too. Look for my next link.

I have added new information above.

I have just found out that my great grandparent's are Agnes and James Stead.

Looks like James as a name has been passed down through the generations.

Hi this is coolabah
DON'T GIVE UP!
I put out a journal for Viv Kennils, who is the daughter of my grandfathers cousin. I was suprised when I logged on after quite a long, long time, that I had recived a few messages from her. Viv found out from her brother-inlaw that I have been looking from her.
This made me very excited and has given me a little pick me up: to log on more often rather than thinking that I will not be able to move on any futher with my family tree.
