looking for the native american in the packer family of centre co.,pa

Query by clarise

I am a descendant of Philip Packer and Hannah Sessions who immigrated from England. Then Philip Packer and Ann Coates, James Packer and Rose Mendenhall, Aaron Packer and Hannah Johnston, Jehu Packer and Sarah Dow, James M. Packer and Wilhemina Boyer, James Irvin Packer and Fannie Mae Brickley, Dorothy Sylvia Packer Carrolus, Sylvia Arlene Carrolus Reilly Campbell. James and Rose died in Howard, Centre Co., Pa. and it appears the family remained there until James I. moved to Altoona, Pa. Hannah Johnston's parents are unknown to me as is Sarah Dow's mother. One of these people could be the Native American I am looking for. Please, can anybody help me?

I was married to a Packer who was a grandson of James Irvin Packer and Fannie Mae Brickley. We also have been trying to fill in the rest of the ancestry of this family and had been told of Native American ancestry also. Have you had any success since you posted this in 2011?

NOT REALLY. I suspect it was Sarah or her mother. I couldn't find any info on Sarah's mother. Back then it was taboo to marry a native and many were passed off as " White". Also, after clashes with Indians, "white" families often took in orphaned Indian children and raised them as "white". Unfortunately, I didn't ask my grandmother for more details. If I learn more I will contact you. I only knew Aunt Bea, Bernadine and Ethel and Uncle Lee and met Jimmy when I was very young.
