lOOKING FOR THE PARENTS OF William F. GODFREY,born in Fairfield, CT ~1814 and died in New York City, NY on 27 Sep 1879. Married to Elizabeth Law(ence) born 1815 in PA, died 1883, NYC, NY. Sons are Captain George W. GODFREY born 1837 NY, NY and died 1867 NY, NY and James A, GODFREY born 1840 and served in the 4th Regiment NY Volunteers. Captain George and James A. joined the Army the same day, May 7th 1861 inNew York City.
Capt. George was my great great grandfather and was at Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. He and his brother survived three major battles, which was a miricle. They both mustered out on 25 May 1863 in New York City. Capt. George died in 19 Aug 1867, at New York City. Capt. George was married to Anna McComiskey and they had three children; William James born 22 Jan 1862 at Back Bay, Maryland, nearby where his father was stationed. And died 25 Jun 1951.
