Looking for Vartanian, Nichanian, Bogluhian
Vartanian, Nichanian, Bogluhian
I am looking for my paternal side. I am trying to find the connections of Sam Vartanian, (Sahak Nichanian) from The Village of Keghi, Erzurum, Turkey and my Great-Grandfather Nickan Vartanian/Bogluhian(unsure of spelling) Marseille France, where he has been a steel factory worker shortly after 1913.
I know I have cousins from France, for they visited the USA when I was about 14, year 1982. The only names that we remember are Yvonne(mother), Joelle(daughter), Stephone(grandson)we have no clue on last name.
This is what I know:
Grandfather: American Name - Sam Vartanian >>Changed from – Sahak Nichanian/Nickanian
DOB Aug 1. 1896 Village of Keghi, Erzurum, Turkey
DOD Mar 17, 1966 Toledo, Ohio
Great Grandfather: Nichan /Nickan Vartanian/Bogluhian(unsure of last name)
Great Grandmother: Unknown
Sam arrived in the US, July 29, 1913 on the SS Chicago in New York, NY, from Havre France.
On that manifest the nearest relative is list as his father Nickan Bogluhian (what it looks to be)
Joining & final destination > Friend: Ohanes –oraheaian [?], 11 Solvay Ave. Detroit, MI
I am told Sam travel with someone by the name Nishan Ohanesian (changed to Harry James) DOB About 4-11-1899
I have a newspaper article (Toledo Blade) where Sam and his father reunited after 36 years of separation.
Pertinent Information in that article is as follows:
“The son left Turkey in 1913 and came to the United States. The father left their native land the next year as almost the sole survivor of their family, the others having been killed in the first year of World War I. After a short stay in Russia Nickan Vartanian went to Marseille France, where he has been a steel factory worker most of the time since.”
