I have been looking for William Gwatkin's ancestors for some time. Given the options I know about, it seems possible that he is the WG from Garway or Much Dewchurch. The Garway family were Coopers, and the Dewchurch family carpenters. There are also good reasons for thinking that he didn't belong to either of these families. He was literate, and married into a very good family, which is not the case for either the Garway or Much Dewchurch families.
At some point I will pay to get access to the apprenticeship records on the chance that these can help.
Did you know that there is a list of all the content's of William and Elizabeth Maria's house/inn soon after his available?
Elizabeth Maria is much easier to track. Father: Walter Harris Mother: Susannah (Sukey) Collins
Father's father: Walter Harris - his father was probably Edmund Harris of Ruardean, Gloucestershire, who shifted to Walford abt 1690. Wife: Margaret Father's mother: Ann
Mother's father: James Collins Mother's mother: Elianor Stacy
Elizabeth Maria's sister Anna Maria also married a Chepstow dweller Elizabeth Maria's uncle, John Stratford Collins acted as surety for William Gwatkin for one of his bankruptcy cases.
I am a descendant through the 'John Gwatkins'. How are you connected to this family?
Hi Carolyn, thank you for your response. I will follow up on what you say about William's family.
I am a descendant through 'William Gwatkin'. My mother is a Gwatkin.
Do you have a link to the list of contents for William and Elizabeth's house/inn?
I am registered on your web site and really appreciate the work you have done.
I have photos of William John Gwatkin (1905-79) and his brothers and sisters which you may like to add to your web site. Let me know where to upload them.
Hi Dennis I am the son of William John Gwatkin (1905-1979) you talk about and am interested in any photos you have of my father. I am of his second marriage so am interested in where you fit into the scheme of things.
Carolyn has done excellent work on the history of the Gwatkin family and this is on the Onename study site.
I have written up about my immediate family and am currently compiling information about the Gwatkin family descendants down through Christopher line who is a brother to John that Carol's line is from.
Are you the son of Ivy Mavis Gwatkin, born 1950? If so, I would love to catch up with you and find out any information about you and your brothers etc. Your mother was a half sister to me. my email is kevin@netaccess.co.nz if you want to communicate with me.
