Did you ever get any help? I am a descendant of Margaret "Mary Ann" Woodgates daughter Mary Ann to William Woodgate.
Hi msvaga,
Here is the journal I was talking about in our messages
Mary Ann's maternal grandfather, James Worser Heberley
Their first born was ..
1832 - 1873 Mary Anne 'Mere Maki' Heberley
born 27 Dec 1832
Mary married Robert Woodgate (1822-1863) in Wellington 5 July 1854.
Mary next had a de facto relationship with his brother, William Henry Woodgate (1827-1877).
Mary died 23 Nov 1873 aged 40 in Queen Charlotte Sounds
I believe these were the Woodgate you were asking about?
Their daughter Mary Ann married David John Ross & Frederick Beechey Blois Innes
Hi Mary Ann married John David Ross, May 1881. I have a copy of their wedding certificate. David was Johns brother. He also possibly immigrated to NZ as well going by other family trees. The wedding certificate for Marys wedding to Frederick states she was widowed from John in March 1925 but family trees have him dying in Napier 1942. I was also not able to find a death certificate for john for that date. Mary Ann on her 2nd wedding certificate had Thomas Pike, a fisherman as her father instead of William Woodgate.
Cheers
Dayle
John Ross died Saturday, 18 July 1942 in the Public Hospital in Napier aged 95/99? and is buried in Park Island cemetery. So she wasn't a widow when she married Frederick but may have been divorced
OR It is a completely different person. I will look into that
Hi, possibly she fudged her details on the Innes wedding certificate with her so called widow status plus different father details. So you can see why I am a little confused with what info I am finding. I did try to find divorce documents but didnt. Maybe you will have more time and luck. I had checked electoral rolls for John Ross and did find there was one in Napier plus one in the usual area he and Mary had been.
