looking for Woodhouse of London, England.

My brick wall is finding birth and family records for my grandfather, James Reginald St.Leger WOODHOUSE, born in Finsbury , London on 28th September, 1861. Census of 1901 and 1911 show him as born there but I can;t find any record of his or his family from that time or earlier.
He lived abroad in Panama, Jamaica and Brazil from 1879 to 1895, marrying Martha Ellen ROGERSON in about 1889 and having one son born in Brazil with her. They returned to Liverpool,England in 1895 and Martha died in February 1902. He then married my grandmother, Mary Jane WILSON (n?e ROWLANDS) in Bootle on 11th April, 1903.
I want to find out more about his ancestors. His father is listed on his marriage certificate as Arthur St.Leger WOODHOUSE, cabinet maker, deceased.
I| have lots of information about his later life but am stumped to find anything about his family at birth of before.

briarowl on 2015-12-31 17:34:28Hi, I have just found you question. I too am related to James R Woodhouse in that the Mary Jane Wilson (Rowlands) was my father's aunt. I cannot tell you any more about James but can fill you in on Mary Jane and her family.
Please contact me as I am trying to piece together 'living' relatives.

gje on 2016-01-01 04:47:01Dear Brian, Good to make contact. I have lots of info about Mary Jane--made a special trip tp Anglesea a few years ago and tracked her down quite well. Her father was killed at sea when he was 28 and her mother , Elizabeth Owens at birth, married Arthur John Candler. They had four further children.I can send you a gedcom file for all that if you like. So I guess that you as a Rowland must be a descendant of one of Mary Jane's brothers?
