Martyn of England, 19th century

Journal by Harper1775

Arthur Martyn born in Parsons Green Middlesex, England in 1846 married Mary Anne Millington in Leicester and had one son, Roland Arthur born 1876. Mary Ann died in Fulham, London in 1893 and was buried in Old Barnes Cemetery.

In the 1901 and 111 Census Arthur was living with a Rose Jane Martyn but have been unable to find a marriage certificate. When Rose Jane died in 1930 her certificate stated she was a widow. Unable to find any information regarding Arthur's death.

Have been advised Arthur's father was William John Martin and his mother was Elizabeth Cowdery.

Mary Anne's parents were Thomas Millington and Ann Ashton from Cheshire.

Very much appreciated your information which is correct. I have found the name spelled Martyn, Martin and Marton. Spent weeks on various web sites trying to find out death information to no avail.

Their son Roland Arthur Cowdery Martin/Martyn went to Australia in approx. 1898.

Again, thank you so much and if you can help with Arthur's death information I would be most appreciative.

I think Mary Anne Died in 1893 and is buried st Marys Barnes in Surrey aged 45
According to the 1911 census he is 'married' to a Rose Jane ? and married 17 years but I have been unable to verify this. I will keep looking

Again, very much appreciate your assistance. I also found Mary Ann/Anne died in 1893 and have checked St. Mary's Barnes Cemetery, but could not find any reference to her.

I have a note that said Arthur also died in Fulham in 1893 but cannot find a record of his death anywhere, and have no idea where the note came from. Interesting about the marriage to Rose Jane. I "assumed" the son Roland went to Australia in 1898 as both his parents died, but have no evidence this is correct.

I found documentation that said he was a glass decorator and apparently there were companies or organizations in the Fulham area that specialized in glass decorating.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I do apologize for the delay in responding but have been chasing other ellusive ancestors.

I have been advised that the Arhtuer who married Rose Jane is not my Arthur.

Another very helpful person found information regarding Mary Ann's burial and forwarded on to me.

Have spent months trying to find out if Arthur died in England or went to Australia.

Stay safe.

Cherrill
