Hello Tonkin - My brother's father inlaw was a william linton mathews And i know his ancestry was from somewhere in shropshire england . To come across the same name in print again I could see the possibility of following this family tree back to its roots and possibly curing two birds with one stone . Hence my --- Bingo !!!another trail to follow .This is one side in the personal family ancestry books that has been on going now as even his children did not know where he was born . All this may not be helpful to you but another possible lead back to us is . regards edmondsallan

Had my hopes up there. The William I'm looking for was born in Victoria about 1855 if my information is correct, but I have not been able to locate his birth. Mother's name was Mary LINTON, hence his second given name. I have found a Mary LINTON married to a Stewart MATTHEWS in 1850 but can only find the one child for them.

Tonkin - hello - Just a sketchy idea of our mathew line . We have got no proof of the following - we think the following all tie up somehow somewhere .
( a ) Rev mathews - late of kaitaia and his son Rev Joseph .
( b ) a William . L . Mathews in Canada - married a - mary ? 5 children . They were -m- we think in England , we think Shropshire ?
( c ) their children were all born in Canada
( d ) We think The Mathews who died in in 1927 ? aged 84 yrs is him . but we have the death record and being one of the earlier ones a lot was not filled in . So we are chasing some hairline shadows at the moment . To see the same name - Bingo !!! we are hoping they named him after somebody way back . I felt you needed a better explaination
