Hi Maree,
Mathew/Matthew Schimanski (1851-1933) was born in Prussia/Germany to Mathias Szymanski & Carolina Fox.
* Matthew first married Julia Burkett (1854-1894).
. they had about 10 children, 1 of whom was your great grandmother, Martha Mary Schimanski (1878-1940) who married John Frederick Rice Hanright (1880-1953) in 1904 & had your grandfather, John Mathew Hanright (1905-1993) in Dannevirke & he married Margaret Elizabeth Scammell (1909-1987) in 1930 in Milton
* Julia died 26 April 1894 in Christchurch and Matthew next married Anna 'Annie' Rogal (1849-1925) in 1899. They are all buried in Linwood cemetery, Christchurch - Matthew & Julia together
Not yet found where Mathias & Carolina are but these names and dates may help other readers to identify them for you.
Another of their sons, Christianus 'Christopher' Schimanski/Szymanski (1848-1920), born in Poland also came to New Zealand. He married Louisa Elisabetha Anne Nikel (1842-1906) in Poland in 1872. They are also buried in Linwood, Cemetery, Christchurch

Thankyou for helping me ,my husband and i went over to the linwood cemetery today we found mathew but lot Christopher ,but we are going back there on the weekend .
So where are you connected to this family ?

Hi Maree, when you go looking for Christopher on the weekend, he & Louisa are in Block 43, Plot 141. (Mathew & Julia are in Block 41, Plot 91 & 92). Mathew's 2nd wife, Annie is not too far away - Block 41, Plot 107
Christopher & Louisa are buried with their 7 year old son George John Schimanski (1902-1909), son of their son John Schimanski (1882-1921) & Esther Louisa Marsh. He died of Emphysema Tularaemia, an infectious disease in wild rodents, squirrels and rabbits. Humans can be infected if they're bitten.
There is a headstone photo for them, which, if you go see it at this link, it may make it easier for you to find the grave. Good Luck
ps . I am not related

thankyou for that
