I am researching Hugh McDiarmid who I believe was born c.1772 in Perthshire (probably Broadalbin). Hugh emigrated with fellow countymen to New York State in 1798 and settled in the region of present day Rochester. He married Ann Grant and they had 7 children before moving to East Nissouri, Oxford, Canada West (now Ontario, Canada). Hugh died in Ingersol, Oxford, Ontario in 1856.

I am hoping to confirm his date and place of birth as well as the names of his parents and siblings. Do you have any suggestions? Resources?

I am researching the family of William McDiarmid the son of said Hugh McDiarmid. Hugh McDiarmid received two land patents (homesteads) dated 1836 and 1841 in East Nissouri, Oxford County, Ontario. I believe his son William inherited the farm and Hugh lived with William near the end of his life. I have found two other siblings of Hugh McDiarmid, a Hamel d.1829 and Catharine d.1838 who are buried with Ann McDiarmid (nee Grant) d.1844 in a grave in Ingersoll Rural Cemetery, Oxford County, Ontario. A second Hugh McDiarmid b. c 1811 owned a farm in East Nissouri. This Hugh was married to a Sarah Nichols. There is a suggestion that William and the second Hugh were related, but I have not found proof that the second Hugh was Hugh McDiarmid's son.
