Is she one of the Barrett's from WINNINOWIE Very small town. These Barrett's had a lot to do with the Presbyterian Church Mrs. Barrett (mother)ran the choir and I think the father was a councilor. He came from Guernsey, England. Born there in 1853 and died in near Hammond in 1931. He married twice firstly to a Miss Hart then after she died around 1905 he married the daughter of an M.P a Mr.J. G. Moseley. He had four sons and three daughters. The daughters were Mrs. Simms and Maynard lived at Clare, and Mrs. Hill, who lived at Freeling. I suppose if one of them was your Merle it is the right family.
The Port Augusta Dispatch, Newcastle and Flinders Chronicle Friday 30 September 1904 p 2
PRESBYTERIAN BAND OF HOPE
WINNINOWIE.

The quarterly social
meeting was held in the church on
Thursday the 22nd inst, Mr Andrew
Barrett occupying the chair. There was
a large attendance of young people and
friends from Stirling North and Port
Augusta, the building being crowded.
A long and excellent programme was
rendered by the members and others,
after which refreshments were handed
round. Miss Elsie Barrett carried out
the duties of secretary, and Miss May
Barrett that of organist, most acceptably.
The following is the programme carried
out: - Hymn 66 ; recitation, George
Partridge; recitation, Olive Barrett;
solo, Mrs Partridge ; recitation, Bruce
Foulis; reading, Mr Holdsworth;
chorus by company ; recitation, Coral
McDowell ; recitation, Willie Partridge; song,

of children ; recitation, Mr C. Foulis ;
solo, Master Bob Holdsworth ; recitation, Edward Prosser; solo, Merle Barrett; recitation, Susan Willoughby; dialogue, company; violin solo, Mary
Holdsworth ; hymn 25.

Correct the father of the baby, Amy Barrett was not recored, correct her birth was 12th November 1902, its looking like the father of Amy was Aborigional. hopefully we might be able to solve this mystery.

car175

Amy 'Dollie' Barrett's father was unknown, that is who we are trying to track down.

janilye

What makes you think it was an aboriginal?
It's unlikely an aboriginal boy would have dared go with a white woman.
More likely one of those nice Presbyterian boys.
The mother chose not to reveal the name of the father. If she didn't tell anyone then you have no hope of finding out.

car175

The fact that they all look like aborigionals, they have been asked many times by aborigionals what mob they belong to and only aborigionals know Aborigionals, the fact that Doctors have asked are they aboriginal. Serioulsy we can't say that an Aboriginal boy wouldn't go near a white australian, when you fall in love you fall in love.. and thanks for your very postive comments!

The nearest camp was Port Augusta and Merle would not have gone there.
The boy must have worked for the Barrett's or one of their close neighbours. He may have been half caste.
Did Merle raise Amy?
Sorry if I appear so nosy but the more information you give the better your chances of connecting with someone who has information.
You could ask a librarian about the Barrett's of Winninowie. They may have some records.
He arrived in South Australia aged 4, on board the 'Marion' on the 19 January 1857, with his parents and sister, 1 year old, Emma.
Their property was known as "Corio" he later in life moved to Saltia, S. A. where he died.

Hi Car175.

Can you assist with any further details for Amy Amelia (Dollie) BARRETT. Other than her birth I'm unable to locate any further records for her.

Do you have any marriage or death details for Amy?

As mentioned by janilye, the more details you provide the better your chances of someone being able to assist you with further record searches, or connecting you with someone willing to assist you with more information.

Amy's father was not named on her birth certificate. The question is did Amy's mother, Merle, ever tell Amy her father's name?

I would also suggest you obtain Amy's birth certificate because it may provide a few more hidden details.

Janilye, thanks for this, she Merle placed (Dollie) in the care of the Salvation Army with a letter to Rev Inglis of Crystal Brook, I am trying to follow through on my mother in-laws search, there was talk of a boy/aborigional working for the Barretts, she was adopted by the Hincks family of Crystal Brook
