(it is possible Michael arrived in NZ in 1888 from England on the ss Tongariro as a Government passenger, Wellington contingent - research continuing)

he purchased a plot of land in Pohangioa on 8th October 1889 from his brother Bernard

their (known) children were:

17 November 1889 - Mary Catherine Spelman
- Mary did not marry
- she died in 1973 aged 84

27 December 1891 - Thomas John Spelman
- died in 1979 aged 87

14 May 1893 - Annie Theresa Spelman
- Annie did not marry
- she died in 1978 aged 81

1895 - Edward Clifton Spelman
- married Eileen Annie TEE in 1924

1898 - Agnes Winnifred Spelman
- married Stanley James HANLON in 1921

1899 - Bernard Francis Spelman
- died aged 28, see his notes at above link
