Biography: JOHN CLAY was a Eurasian educated at the Vepery Grammar School and the Vepery Mission Seminary at Sullivan's Gardens. He was ordained deacon in 1854 and priest in 1855. He worked in the Telugu districts of the diocese, under the Additional Clergy Society, from 1854 to 1860, when he was employed by the S.P.G. He continued his work at Cuddapah till 1884, when he died.

Hello Doris, John Clay was my Great Grandfather. My Mother, Edith Mary Cecily Clay was the youngest child of Herbert Mitchell Clay. John Clay's Father, Welsh soldier, was drowned in the Godaveri River. I have a wonderful testimony on a word doc of John Clay junior's missionary activities, but I couldn't copy and paste it on here. Hello Doris, Rev John Clay was married twice 1st wife was Isabelle Carr 2nd was Jane Amelia Mitchell which he had three children, William Percy Clay,Alice Bertha Clay Ernest Albert Clay who is my grandfather. Ernest lived in Malaysia in Ipoh and was the post master general.He married Alice Maud Durnford and they had 11 children.His son Allan Douglas my father moved to Australia with my mother who is British after the War.You can contact me and i can give you more information.......Alan John Clay................
