My Grandfather was Ernest William Cummings

What info were you looking for we my be able to help

ernest william cummings is my grandfather and he married my nan margaret goldie in 1932 [in paddington] but they didn't seem to stay together for very long. i don't understand why he never contacted his grandchildren [myself and my brother] we never discussed him as children, i wonder if we are talking about the same person, i would like to know if ernest remarried and had any other children and where are they? thanks for your interest, candy

There does seem to be a problem here as Ernest doesnt show up in the census, maybe he was William Ernest. Margaret too is elusive , there is an Elizabeth Margaret Goldie in the 1911 census. Do you have a marriage certificate or birth certificate for any of them ? It sounds as if he abandond his family. One reason may be that Margaret fell pregnant and had to marry. Maybe this is not what he wanted. if they were married he would have to divorce to remarry. However even in those days as divorce was expensive, it is possible he started another family.
If possible you need to track down any brothers or sister Ernest may have had. Not a lot of help I know but some times you have to look outside the square.

ernest does show up in the census, and yes i have their marriage certificate january 1932, my dad was born in april 1932, i wish i could find out if he remarried. what is your possible connection with this? thank you candy

If the 1942 marriage is right, there is a Winifred Muriel Cahill ( census , could still be Cahall )
in the 1911 census, born St. Albans Hertfordshire in 1911. parents are Joseph & Emily.
Might be worth getting the marriage certificate & see where it takes you. Sometimes the witnesses names can be helpful. The BMDs has her as Winifred Muriel Cahall.

The child was Wendy Cummings mother Cahill. 4th Qt Volume 3a, page 1784.(1943.)
District was St.Albans.

Wendy Cummings married Roy E Stenson at St. Albans 3rd Qt. vol 4b, page 1087 .

Sorry I forgot to put the year which was 1972.
