BUT, his son, my grandfather Charlie/Charles Broughton was born in 1881! I think he was born in the workhouse, is this why his birth was not registered until 1885? Thanks Doreen Harrison.

Do you have a copy of the 1885 Birth certificate to verify the parents names?

Where was he born 1881 or registered 1885

I had the wrong Charles Broughton, there were several who sort of fit the area etc.My grandfather was born in 1885, Dec 7. It looks as if his mum was pregnant when she married. Regards, Doreen.

This is getting rather exciting for me because I have discovered that William and Anne were married Aug, 10, 1885 but their son Charles was born in Dec, 1885! Anne was obviously pregnant when she got married! I am now delving into my great great grandfather, Joshua Broughton. I truly appreciate all the help. Regards, Doreen.

According to the marriage for Anne Ainsworth & William Broughton your gggrandfather was Joseph Broughton not Joshua do we have the correct family?

How did you get back to Charles Broughton b 1885 via a child ie your father? what was your fathers name and date/place of birth ? Did your Charles marry Ellen Johnson (your g/mother) ?

booth2

Yes,William was my great grandfather, that makes Joseph my gg grandfather. My ggg grandfather was Enoch Broughton, I have only just started researching him. My father was Ronald Hugh Booth, my mother was Ellen Broughton, born 1919. Her father was Charles Henry Broughton, my grandfather. My grandmother was indeed Ellen Johnson, her and Charlie married in 1903.I found all this info. by looking and asking questions, kind people like yourself helping. Regards, Doreen.
