Hi thank you for your response it was the 1843 typing error on my part, I don't have a copy of the marriage certificate but I have seen the parish register that tells me John Neal (father) was a labourer same as he was when Mary Ann was baptised.
John and Mary Ann Short had several children their daughter Ellen was my great great grandma

I could not find Mary Ann Neal b 1824 Lincoln in the 1841 census. Which would have been a cross check on her father's name.
